Bay windows are eye-catching amenities you’ll often see on classic houses and older Victorian homes. They can look very elegant and enhance the look of your house.
There are, however, specific needs which must be met in order to design beautiful window treatments that will do your bay windows justice.
There are a number of questions you need to ask yourself before starting to think about the window treatments themselves. Why was a bay window installed in this particular location? Is there a window seat, and what kind of cushions do I need for it? What will its main use be? Is it located in a child’s bedroom? Is the window mainly ornamental? By answering questions such as these, you’ll have a much better idea of the type of window treatments you’re going to want on your window.
If you have an old Victorian bay window, it may well be that it has always been dressed using the heavy drapery materials favored during that era. You might want to consider exchanging those heavy fabrics for newer, lighter ones that will provide an airier effect. These light fabrics will also soften the angles of the window. Whatever you decide, you’ll want to find fabric that matches the décor of the room. In order to create a more dramatic look, you can add faux jewels to your draperies in order to make them more noticeable.
